Contribution to Community
The MN Breast Cancer GAPS Project has an opportunity for a visionary and dynamic individual to guide an entrepreneurial movement to dramatically reduce Black mortality rates from cancer. This high-impact, action-oriented professional will engage the community and guide the start-up, building productive relationships with Black community networks to help end cancer disparities.
The contractor will increase brand awareness, and create community commitment to early detection. Powerful initiatives with community partners will promote cancer prevention and detection innovations owned by the Black community. All collaborative work will be inspired, led by, and sustained by Black community members.
This contract position is 15-20 hours a week through 2/28/24, with potential for increased hours starting 3/1/24. Contract monthly range $5-6,000, commensurate on experience, through 2/28/24.
Independent Contractor Deliverables

Draft an organization start-up plan and develop strategies to engage the community.

Cultivate trusted relationships to act on community-led change to save Black lives from cancer

Model equity principles and foster a culture that reflects them.

Support the Advisory Board and related teams.

Coordinate day-to-day logistics and operations, including external and internal communications, meetings, and events.

Deliver messages and stories through traditional and social media, website, and outreach activities.

Share transformational activities and results across the community.

Draft narrative reports and proposals for funders, grant-making organizations, and the community.

Connect with potential funders to ensure long-term viability. Communicate with/keep the-client informed as agreed upon.
Independent Contractor Expertise and Demonstrated Skills

Education or experience in Health Equity, Communication, or Education.

Strong leadership, teamwork, and networking skills.

Track record of project management skills and follow-through.

Comfortable with ambiguity and start-up experience, thriving in an entrepreneurial environment. Self-starter with multitasking abilities and the ability to work in scope.

Effective communicator able to connect with community organizations and larger systems.

Interact in a culturally competent manner with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.

Knowledge of current community organizing and health equity best practices.

Excellent verbal/written skills.
